    Oops! You Over-ate…

    January 21, 2020

Ever eaten way more than you planned?

I think it’s safe to say we’ve all done this at some point. And once you’ve gone off plan, it’s easy to adopt a screw-it-all approach or to try to punish yourself for the rest of the day. Neither of these approaches is reasonable or helpful in progressing toward your goals!

Just like one day doesn’t get you to your end goal, one day isn’t going to completely derail your progress. Each day we should keep a grateful heart that we are able to choose what we eat, to exercise for hobby and sport, and to rest and care for our bodies in a way that many others can’t. It’s been said that you are more than the number on the scale or the number on the tag of your jeans, but you are also much, much more than the numbers on your My Fitness Pal app, the number of pounds you can squat, or the number of minutes you’ve racked up on the treadmill.

Your progress in your health goals is in your own hands, but it’s important to keep things in perspective. Long-term consistency and effort is what it takes to make progress, and frequent slip-ups can be a barrier to success, but we are all only human.

If you go off plan, here are some things you can do:
-Go ahead and track what you ate. You’ll be more likely to try to hit closer to your numbers for the rest of the day if you know where you’re really at.
-Don’t starve yourself for the rest of the day. Even if you’ve blown past your macros, still eat filling and nutritious foods like lean proteins and veggies at your remaining meals. If you leave yourself ravenously hungry, you’re not exactly setting yourself up for great success tomorrow, ya know?
-Crush a lifting session, take a relaxing walk, or otherwise find a way to move around. You’ll feel better.
-Let it go. Move on. It’s really okay. You’re doing great at working toward your goals. I’m proud of you. Keep on crushing it 🙂
